STUDENTS have been preparing food from around the globe as part of the final assessment of their course.
A group of 11 Year 10 students from Shotton Hall School and Easington Community Science College, who are working towards a BTEC Level 2 in Hospitality & Catering with East Durham College, organised and ran a Foods of the World. event as part of their final assessment.
The students had been researching, planning, training and taste testing for the event for the last two months. They decided as a group on the event theme, then researched menus and trained on how to create dishes from - Thai, Italian, Indian, Chinese and American cuisine.
On the day the student’s all had a chance to get involved with preparing, cooking, serving and running the non-alcoholic bar.
This was the student’s third and final assessment task to count towards their grade, so the pressure was really on as their prepared for the arrival of over 50 covers made up of; family, friends and staff from the two schools and the college.
East Durham College lecturer Lynn Smith said: "It was fantastic how well the students performed on the day.
"The groups from each school had trained separately, so it was great to see how well they gelled together and worked as one team."
