TWO local charities will be hundreds of pounds better off thanks to the efforts of a new football team.
Dormo FC took on a team made up of police officers in a charity match and raised over £500.
The cash will be split between Redcar and Cleveland Councils new Mayor Councillor Brian Briggs nominated charities of Zoe's Place and the Great North Air Ambulance.
Winning 3-2, Dormo FC received the Cliff Houlding Memorial Shield, which was created in memory of the lifelong Dormanstown resident and former ward councillor who died earlier this year.
Cliff's widow Sandra who, with grandson Joshua Dilasser, presented the shield, said: "This initiative has been wonderful, bringing the community together and I know Cliff would have loved the whole thing. I feel so pleased that there is now a shield in his memory which will remain in the community he loved and served during his life."
Dormo FC was founded after Neighbourhood Police Officers, the Fire Brigade and Redcar & Cleveland Council got together with local young people to find a place to play, rather than the bus stops they had been using.
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Andrew Bright said: "The community has been the winner in this excellent initiative which serves to showcase the positive energy of our local young people who have worked hard with the partner agencies to turn their plans into reality."
