A TIME capsule has been buried to mark the start of building work on a new £1m children's centre.
Staff and pupils at Layfield Primary School, Yarm, decided the capsule was an ideal way to mark the creation of the Children's Centre and Foundation Stage Unit.
Headteacher Hazel Ducker joined the architects and contractors of the project to bury a time capsule in the foundations of the new centre.
She said: "It is very exciting to see two years of planning come to fruition and we thought burying a time capsule would be an excellent way to mark the start of building work.
"The project will make such a difference to the school, and to the town, as all residents of Yarm will be able to make use of the centre's facilities."
The project is being funded through Stockton Council's Capital Building Programme, SureStart's Children's Centre Capital Programme and the school's own budget.
And the centre will provide the school with excellent facilities, such as high quality childcare and flexible nursery provision to support families in Yarm.
