POLICE are still searching for the passenger of a car which mounted a pavement an ended up on its roof.
Police have arrested the driver of the car who was taken to hospital following the incident on a busy Darlington street.
However, his passenger fled the scene following the incident on Friday evening at around 10pm.
Another two cars were also involved in the incident and are believed to have been in collision with the first car, a black Vauxhall Astra.
The crash took place at the Northgate roundabout, close to the town centre.
Following the incident a baby which was travelling in a car behind the black Astra was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
Inspector Ed Turner of Darlington police said: "The police surgeon visited the driver of the car in hospital for a blood procedure which involves taking specimens to see if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
"Those enquiries are still ongoing.
"The passenger is still outstanding and we'd be keen to hear from anyone with any information in relation to this incident."
Enquiries are also being made to see if the car was stolen or not.
As the black Astra mounted the pavement it rolled over pedestrian barriers and ended up on its roof, scattering debris over a large distance.
On Saturday, the damaged barriers were removed but evidence of the incident was still visible.
Hons hairdressers on the corner of Northgate had its windows smashed and facade damage.
However, the business was still able to open on Saturday.
Manager Sandra Lee said: "At first we were told that a car had come through the shop window, but it's not that bad.
"The insurers were down here first thing this morning and it's going to be sorted.
"It could have been a lot worse, there could have been people on the pavement.
"But the windows will be replaced and it's just business as usual."
Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to call police on 0345 6060365.
