A FLAG-RAISING ceremony will take place in Richmond to honour Britain's armed forces.
The first national Armed Forces Day is on June 27 - and to mark the occasion, a special flag will be flown at Richmond’s Friary Gardens.
The flag will be formally raised on Monday, June 22, at 10.30am, to coincide with the raising of flags all across the country.
District council chairman Coun Helen Grant said: "I have had the privilege of working for the Ministry of Defence for many years so it is particularly significant for me that we mark Armed Forces Day in Richmondshire.
"Our district has a long and distinguished military history and is now home to the country’s largest military base at Catterick Garrison.
"I hope serving personnel, veterans, cadets and local residents alike will join us at the ceremony, to help us honour Britain’s armed forces, past, present and future."
