A DOWN’S syndrome youngster who saved a fellow school pupil from drowning has been given a bravery award.
Dominic Laycock, 11, of Dalton, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, won a Stray FM child of achievement award.
A pupil at Mowbray School, Bedale, he helped a young girl who was struggling in the school’s swimming pool until help arrived.
Dominic also came fourth out of 32 swimmers in the North-East Region Disability Swimming Championships 2009.
His father, Tony Laycock, said: “It’s a great achievement, especially as he has Down’s syndrome and it’s tremendous for him.
Dominic is really chuffed with himself over it.”
Dominic collected his prize in Harrogate.
