National Grid has completely changed their plans for the extension of the sub station in Ferryhill.
Initially, the company was proposing to build a 30 acre electricity sub station, with huge new pylons, that would have blighted the landscape of Ferryhill. Local residents complained that the tremendous views they enjoy would be lost, if the enormous sub station went ahead.
The revised plans will see the development of the current sub station on the existing site. Although more costly, National Grid listened to local residents and the council, and have now altered their plans.
Ferryhill will now not have to overlook a new unsightly sub station. The views of Durham Cathedral, Penshaw Monument and the North Pennines will not be obscured.
The town council thanked the company for having consulted people and then acted upon local residents concerns.
