A TEAM which works work with people affected by drug misuse are raising awareness of their services as part of national Tackling Drugs Week.

The Hambleton and Richmondshire Substance Misuse Service comprises specialist doctors, nurses, a social worker and a drugs support worker who help drug users and alcoholics through treatment.

The Northallerton-based team also works with the families, carers and friends of those affected by substance misuse.

It is now holding a week-long road show in the Friarage Hospital so members of the public, patients and carers can find out more about the services on offer across the Hambleton and Richmondshire districts.

Clinical team leader Wendy Pedley said: "We do a lot of work with drug users at different stages of dependency. Some will require an inpatient admission if they are in need of stabilisation.

"For those who are ready to make a change in their lives, we help by prescribing specialist medication and providing therapeutic support.

"We also provide practical support which means helping recovering users to change to a more positive lifestyle through access to education, employment or volunteer work."

She added: "National Tackling Drugs Week is a great opportunity for people to come and talk to us to get an insight about our services. We also hope to raise awareness and potentially reach out to people whose lives might be affected by substance misuse."
