FOUR people had to be rescued from the Holy Island causeway this afternoon after becoming stranded by the incoming tide.

Two adults and two young twin boys made it to the refuge box and alerted the emergency services at around 4pm.

The lifeboat from nearby Seahouses was called and took the group back to the mainland.

Their car was recovered later.

A spokesman for the Humber Coastguard said: "They made it to the refuge box and were whisked off by the Seahouses lifeboat."
