Parents and children from a Wear Valley Primary School have been busy preparing healthy alternatives to their favourite takeaways for the last six weeks.
Twelve parents and children took part in Thursday Night Takeaway ran by Bishop Auckland College at Sunnybrow Primary School. Each week the parents and children prepared and cooked tasty and healthy alternatives to their favourite take away meals which included various cuisines from around the world.
On parents said “The tutor made it fun for everyone and my child thought it was fantastic!”
Julie Bray, Parent Support Advisor said “The parents and children have thoroughly enjoyed this family learning activity and due to its success the parents have requested to go on to do further learning and hope to complete their NVQ Level 1 in Food Preparation and Cookery in September”.
Willington and Crook cluster of schools have received funding from the Primary Care Trust to develop healthy cookery sessions for children, parents and the wider community from September. If anyone living in Willington and Crook is interested in free cookery sessions please contact Claire Young at Parkside Sports College on 01388 746396 or email c.young104@durhamlearning.net
