YOUNGSTERS from across Teesside are to join forces to celebrate World Music Week.

Musicians and singers will be performing at two special events next week.

Tees Valley Youth Wind Orchestra, Hartlepool Concert Band and St Aidan’s Primary School Choir will play at St George’s United Reformed Church, in Park Road, Hartlepool, on June 16, from 7pm.

On June 19, more than 200 people will take to the stage at the Borough Hall in the town to celebrate Hartlepool World Music Festival 2009. It will start at 7pm.

It will feature the Tees Valley Youth Orchestra, the Hartlepool Junior and Senior String Orchestras, Hartlepool Percussion Group, Hartlepool Function Band, the Asian music of Tees Valley Yangchin Group, the Barnard Grove Primary School and St Hild’s School Taiko Group, Hartlepool Primary Gifted and Talented Choir and the English Martyrs School and Sixth Form Chamber Choir.

The event is supported by Hartlepool Borough Council and has been organised by Dan Jones, Tees Valley Music Service’s Hartlepool co-ordinator.

He said: "We have some terrific young musical talent in Hartlepool and across the Tees Valley and these two events showcase the very best.

Tickets for both events are available on the door priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions. Children are free.
