HUNDREDS of young singers will be taking to the stage to show off their vocal talents at the internationally renowned Sage Gateshead.

The children from the South Bank and Eston cluster of schools, near Middlesbrough, will be taking full advantage of performing at one of the regions foremost musical venues.

The Joy Around The World event will see more than 1,800 pupils, from South Bank, Eston, Grangetown, Nunthorpe, Ormesby and Teesville primary schools, performing a number of songs from 16 different languages.

Brenda Urwin, headteacher of South Bank Primary, said: "We have been putting in quite a lot of work into music and music related activities as part of the schools curriculum and this event is the culmination of that work.

"Singing is the perfect musical tool because you can take it everywhere you go and this is certainly something that the children will remember for the rest of their lives.

"We are hopefully going to be able to put on a performance of the show later in the year so that parents will be able to hear their children sing."
