THE Princess Royal is to officially open a major £1.1m refurbishment of an entertainment centre in North Yorkshire.

She is to view work at the Galtres Sports Hall and Entertainment Centre at Easingwold, near Thirsk, on Thursday, July 2.

The upgrade scheme has seen the centre undergo a complete refurbishment and it can now cater for sports, talks, concerts and cinema film showings.

A Galtres Centre spokesman said: "It’s fantastic for us that she is coming to along and she is the first royal visitor we have had.

"She is going to meet the Galtres Centre committee members and tour the facility."

The Princess Royal will be given a tour of the centre from 11.15am and will meet local dignitaries plus funders of the work and people linked to the facility.

She will see some of the sports which use the Galtres Centre being played.

The royal visitor will also meet some of the people connected with the entertainment side of the Galtres facilities.

Her tour will end when she unveils a plaque at the Galtres Centre to officially open the facility.
