A FAMILY with a history of service in the RAF is celebrating after one of it's youngest members became the fourth generation to graduate from initial officer training.

The Goodrum family, from Northallerton, came together to watch Naomi, 22, graduate from RAF College Cranwell, after a year of officer training.

Her father and grandfather spent many years in the RAF, as did her great-grandfather, Percy Cooke, who died five years ago.

Roger Goodrum, Naomi's father, graduated from Cranwell in 1982, and spent 22 years in the airforce, including three years at RAF Leeming where he flew Tornado Fmk3s.

Grandfather Bob Goodrum completed his officer training in 1980 at RAF Henlow, before becoming a flight engineer.

His father-in-law, Percy Cooke, was a warrant officer in the administration branch of the RAF- the same branch that Naomi has joined.

Roger Goodrum said Naomi had first mentioned joining the RAF at the age of five.

"She's changed her mind about joining on-and-off during the years," he added.

"But I think she likes the lifestyle that the RAF gives you and the standards that it demands of officers, as well as the chance to see some of the world."

Naomi is now based in High Wycombe where she is completing further training and will receive her first posting in a few months- possibly to Afghanistan.
