THOUSANDS of pounds worth of golfing equipment has been stolen from four golf club locker rooms in the space of a week.

Between June 2 and 6, thieves entered the male locker rooms at Bedale, Harrogate, Knaresborough, and Thirsk and Northallerton golf clubs, wrenching open members' lockers.

Golf clubs, golf bags, waterproof clothing, shoes and other golfing accessories were stolen.

The equipment includes brands like Ping, Taylor Made, Callaway, Mizuno, Nike, Cobra and Scotty Cameron.

DC Gary Smith-Owen, of Northallerton CID, is urging anybody who is offered golfing equipment for sale which they believe may have been stolen to contact the police immediately.

"Due to the nature and timing of the thefts at the four golf clubs, it is very likely that they have been carried out by the same offenders," he said.

"I am appealing for any information that could help us catch these individuals.

"I need to know about any suspicious activity in and around the golf clubs, such as vehicles parked up near the courses at odd times of the day, as well as unknown people hanging around the clubhouses.

"The more information that comes in, even the most seemingly innocuous detail, will help us to catch the offenders and bring them to justice as quickly as possible."
