Proximity (effect), 2 Foot Maid and Spectrum Seven showed off their stuff on the 21st of May. Each band contributed something different to the night that entertained Darlington’s young music critics (aged 14-17).
First up was the punk-rockers Proximity (effect), the Bishop Auckland band is made up of Jonny (singer), Stiv (bassist), Sam (guitarist) and Craig “Daisy” (drummer).
Proximity (effect) riled up the crowd by offering £10 to the best dancer in the crowd. They managed to get every teen dancing, jumping and singing along throughout the whole show.
The band played a cover of Mr Brightside, as well as their own original and catchy songs, such as ‘Worlds Apart’, ‘Little Sparks’ and ‘Back in Time’.
Influenced by the likes of You Me At Six, Fightstar and Angles and Airwaves Proximity (effect)’s sound can quite honestly be described as epic.
The band are currently recording their album, called ‘Our Worlds Collide’, and are playing in a variety of different festivals, including Full Throttle Festival.
Second on to tempt the crowd with hit songs such as; “Evil Spirits”, “Nobody Knows” and “Epic” was
Durham band 2 Foot Maid. The band describes themselves as heavy rock with a mixture of influences off each member such as; Foo Fighters, See You Next Tuesday and Metallica.
The band is a 3-piece and what’s more special is they’re all brothers. You have:
- Chris= Guitarist
- Seb = Drummer
- Alex = Bass/Vocals
Their name, 2 Foot Maid, came from the idea of wanting a 3-worded name and so the band put random words inside a hat and this was the first sentence to actually make sense and the guys actually liked.
Coming up in the future for the band is an EP, that is being recorded at the moment.

Headlining the night was Spectrum 7, from Surrey. The band consists of;
*Jon – Guitar
*Jason – Vocals/Guitar
*Sean – Bass/Vocals
*Graem – Drums
The band describe them selves as rock with a mix of electro, although their influences are all really different and couldn’t pick certain influences.
The name came from a documentary they saw about and oil company called “Spectrum 7” and they thought it was a good name for a band, and it just stuck.
They have also recently come off tour with the band Enter Shakari, which they found a really good experience.
On the night of NewBlood the crowd jumped around and shown genuine enthusiasm to the songs; “Serafin”, “Frozen” and “Blue Wray”.
In the upcoming future their mini album is coming out. The mini-album is going to be called “So Silent The Night” which includes tracks like; “September”, “Serafin” and actually one of the songs is called “So Silent The Night”.
