HOLIDAY company Scottravel has ceased trading, disrupting scores of tourists' holiday plans.
The Scottish firm provided charter holidays from Newcastle International Airport to Bodrum and Dalaman in Turkey.
An estimated 1,300 of the company's customers were abroad at the time it collapsed, but it was an Atol-holder and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)said it would be making arrangements for customers to complete their holidays and fly home as normal.
But those about to start their holidays were left with disruption to their plans.
Tonight Newcastle Airport issued a statement saying: "Newcastle International Airport has been informed that Scottravel Holidays Limited (ATOL 5787) has ceased trading. All holidays with the company are cancelled from today, June 4 2009.
"Customers due to travel on a Scottravel holiday or flight from Newcastle International are asked not to arrive at the airport." The company, based in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland operated two websites, scottravelholidays.co.uk and guletcruiseonline.co.uk, although its trips were mainly sold through travel agents.
Customers due to travel on a Scottravel holiday are advised to contact the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on their customer service helpline number, Tel: 0207 453 6700 or visit www.caa.co.uk and click on 'latest news'.
