FOUR teenage friends are to take part in a marathon golf challenge that will see them complete four different golf courses in one day to raise money for a cancer charity.
Jack Stephenson, 16, James Wallace, 18, and Harry Payne, 18, who all study at Northallerton College, and Andrew Clark, 18, who attends Queen Elizabeth II College, in Darlington, are hoping to complete the Macmillan Cancer Support Longest Day Golf Challenge.
They will tee off at Romanby golf club at 4am on Friday, June 19, before going on to Thirsk Northallerton golf club at 8am, Bedale golf club at 1pm and rounding off the day at Akebar golf club, between Bedale and Leyburn, at around 6pm.
The foursome decided to take on the challenge as a way of paying back some of the help given by Macmillan Cancer Support to James Wallace’s grandfather who is suffering from the disease.
Macmillan stepped in to help him by offering transport to and from hospital for his treatment, something which is believed to have cost more than £750.
Jack, who helped to organise the group’s challenge, said: "James wanted to give something back because he honestly believes that Macmillan have helped to prolong his grandfather’s life.
"We were more than happy to join in because we know how much they help people."
The golfers first met at Romanby golf club, where they learned the game and have been playing for several years.
