Catterick Young Farmers have raised a fantastic £292 for Sue Ryder Care by taking part in the Rural Apprentice competition. There was a cheque presentation at this week's meeting to celebrate the club's success and to say a big thank you to all the club members and supporters.
The group of young farmers entered ‘Jack Of All Trades’, a giant carrier bag full of local produce into the Mascot Race in Wetherby at the end of April.
Jack Henry, a junior member of the club, came a fantastic 17th out of 54 runners on the day. With the sponsorship money collected from this they managed to turn £50 into £292.
Catterick Young Farmers decided to take on this challenge for the healthcare charity’s Holme Hall Neurological Care Centre. Sue Ryder Care has two neurological care centres and two hospices in Yorkshire.
They took part in a competition called "Rural Apprentice" which was held across Yorkshire Young Farmers clubs. Each club was given a £50 investment fund and was challenged to use their imagination, hard work and entrepreneurial skills to devise and run schemes to create a big return for the charity.
Members of Catterick club will make a presentation and answer questions on their efforts before a panel of judges including a professional fundraiser and a local entrepreneur at the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs Annual County Show, this Saturday 7th June at Nidderdale Showground.
Laura Stephenson, Chair Person for Catterick Young Farmers added: “We thought this was a different kind of competition and it was a great chance to support and raise money for a local cause."
Fiona Chilton, fundraiser for Sue Ryder Care said: “A big thank you to the members of Catterick Young Farmers for all their hard work, and well done to Jack for doing so well in the race! All money raised from fundraising events such as Rural Apprentice helps us to continue to provide compassionate care to hundreds of people each year living with complex conditions.”
