MORE than 30 affordable homes are to be built in an East Durham village.
The 33 properties, a mix of two- and three-bedroom houses and bungalows, will be built on land at Moore Terrace, in Shotton Colliery.
The project has been drawn up by Three Rivers Housing Group and will be funded by the Homes and Communities Agency, with the homes available for social rent and long-term shared ownership.
The land, which covers three acres, was formerly used for council houses. One terrace of empty houses remains, which would be demolished to make way for the new development.
The project was approved by members of Durham County Council’s Central and East Durham planning committee at a meeting at County Hall, Durham, on Tuesday.
As part of the scheme, Three Rivers has agreed to put money towards play facilities in Shotton Colliery.
