TWO students are sharing the honours again just months after they both collected another joint award.

George Robinson and Lucy Morgan have won the John Dennis trophy, the top award handed out annually to Year 11 students at Northallerton College.

The accolade came on the heels of both 16-year-olds being awarded the prestigious Ben Hyde Award for sporting excellence earlier this year.

"We were really surprised and very pleased," said Lucy, who is from Thirsk. "It means such a lot to be chosen by the principal, staff and students."

George added: "It’s hard to believe as we both got the Ben Hyde Award together too which was fantastic."

John Dennis, chairman of the governors, said: "It is an amazing achievement to be even nominated. The award is for the Year 11 girl and boy who by their attitude, commitment and honourable conduct have contributed the most to the character of reputation of the college.

"This is a milestone in their lives and I am very proud to be associated with such high achievement."

Both students plan to return to college to study A Levels; Lucy in business studies, maths, law and psychology; George in PE, psychology, biology and maths. Lucy hopes to become an accountant, George a coach or physiotherapist.

Before then George will take part in the college’s most ambitious challenge yet; to take a party of students trekking to the Mt Everest base camp.

A keen horsewomen, Lucy takes part in competitions organised by the National Pony Club.

The prizes were among a host of accolades made during the end of year celebratory assembly.

Awards were also made for attendance, subjects, good behaviour and academic excellence.

Director of learning Lynda Phipps congratulated everyone for completing their compulsory education.

"To achieve everything you have so far fully deserves a special celebration," she said.
