At worst, we have a number of MPs who are corrupt. At best, we have a number of MPs who are so disorganised and incompetent that it is positively terrifying that they are running this country.
Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon is the latest MP to be named and shamed for claiming expenses for two different second homes at the same time.
And, like a string of MPs before him, he blamed it all on an "inadvertent administrative error".
Stockton North MP Frank Cook this week made a similar excuse for the fact that he tried to claim back a £5 donation made during a Battle of Britain memorial service.
If MPs are this disorganised, how can we trust them to be in positions of such responsibility?
Even the Chancellor Alistair Darling - the man in charge of public finances - is having to pay back £700.
Another inadvertent administrative error.
