A SEARCH has been launched to find the people who designed six of the bosses on the South Transept of York Minster after the disastrous fire of 1984.
The roof was destroyed in the blaze and two years later, during the restoration work, TV’s Blue Peter ran a competition for youngsters top come up with designed for the new bosses.
The winners were Rebecca-Rose Welsh, Richard Gaston, Laura Smith, Ben Kerslake, Tim Hutchinson and Joanna Biggs - and now Minster staff want to find them again.
They want to invite them - and anyone else who took part in the restoration - to a public service of commemoration and thanksgiving at 12.30pm on July 9, the 25th anniversary of the fire.
The service will be followed by a "bring your own" picnic lunch in the Chapter House in York Minster or in Dean's Park if the weather is good.
Anyone with memories of the fire and restoration is welcome, with an opportunity to bring along any portable memorabilia to show and explain informally with others present.
An exhibition will also be held in the Minster's Chapter House vestibule from early July to late August to celebrate the people who saved the Minster from destruction on the night of the fire, and who helped restore it to its former glory.
