HORSE riders are being advised to take extra care on public roads following an incident on Thornaby Road, in Thornaby, on May 28, at 6.10pm.
The Thornaby Neighbourhood Policing Team came across a horse in distress which was being ridden by a 17-year-old woman.
The horse was posing a serious risk to both the rider and the traffic in the road, which was particularly heavy at this time of day.
The officers and the rider managed to get the horse off the road.
PC Jon Willoughby said: "The riding of horses in public areas is not prohibited, however we would like to emphasise that riders should exercise great care and common sense when taking horses on or near busy roads."
