A MIDDLESBROUGH councillor has been honoured as a community hero for his work within the community.
Councillor David Budd, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for regeneration and economic development, is one of just 21 councillors and officers across the country rewarded by the Development Trusts Association (DTA) The awards evening was to recognise the people in local authorities who have gone out of their way to support their local development trust and foster a spirit of partnership in their communities.
DTA director Steve Wyler said: "Across the country there are many examples of successful and productive relationships.
"Often this is due to individual councillors and officers who have shown great support to community enterprise initiatives, helping local people achieve a sense of ownership, confidence and pride in their community.
"Those individuals, identified by their local development trust, deserve a big thank you from the community enterprise movement.
"We hope that their positive example will lead the way for even more successful partnerships in the future."
Cllr Budd was nominated by Middlesbrough-based Community Ventures Limited.
Cllr Budd said: "I am surprised and flattered to be given this award, but working with local organisations and community groups is as much a part of my role as the townwide and regional matters.
"I am sure that all councillors get great satisfaction from working with organisations like CVL which has done great work over many years."
