A WOMAN needed hospital treatment after being attacked by a pit-bull type dog on the beach.
She was with her family, including a young child, on Marske Beach, near Redcar, when a dog approached.
The woman was bitten on the calf by the dog in the incident at around 3.30pm on Sunday.
The dog owner and his pet left the scene before police or ambulance arrived and did not leave his details.
The lady received hospital treatment for the dog bite, which had gone through to the bone.
Police would like any witnesses to the incident or anyone who knows the identity of the owner or the dog to contact them. The dog is described as completely white with no markings, and of stocky build, possibly a pit-bull type breed.
The owner is a white male, aged in his early 20s, around 6ft tall, of slim build and with unkempt dark hair.
He was wearing yellow and orange shorts. The man is believed to be a Marske resident and is often seen walking with his dog in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Mark Stenson, of Redcar Police, on 01642-302626 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
