LIFEGUARDS are urging parents to keep an eye on their children at the beach following one of their busiest weeks for years.
Redcar and Cleveland’s beach lifeguards had to deal with a number of incidents over the two days, including a 30-minute search for two brothers and a sister on Redcar beach.
The siblings were found unharmed further down the beach.
The council's resorts manager, Paul Castle, said: "There is a clear message here - and it's simple. Keep an eye on your children.
"It's not easy to watch them every second, but this incident does shows how easy it is for children to wander off, then serious concerns are raised."
The lifeguards' varied weekend of work started on Saturday morning with an hour of clearing up broken glass and bottles under Saltburn Pier, following what appears to have been a teenagers' Friday night drinking session.
The most unusual work of the work was first aid treatment to a swimmer, who was stung by a weaver fish at Saltburn.
The logbook of incidents, in the first nine days of work for the lifeguards, is already indicating one of the busiest summers for years.
