A CYCLIST has hit out at the car driver who knocked her off her bike and drove off without leaving his details.

Lisa Anderson, 42, of Spennymoor, County Durham, was knocked off her £2,000 machine on the A177 at Coxhoe when the black Vauxhall Corsa pulled out of Station Road East.

Mrs Anderson, who works for Durham County Council, suffered cuts and bruises and two of her teeth were knocked out. Her bike was completely wrecked.

The elderly driver stopped and checked on her but then got back in his vehicle and drove off, without even calling for an ambulance.

Mrs Anderson had been cycling with her daughter’s boyfriend who dialled 999. She was taken to hospital and later allowed home.

The accident happened on Thursday at 6.30pm as Mrs Anderson, a keen cyclist, was riding to see her son, Craig, take part in a time trial.

She said the car driver said to her companion “I’m sorry”.

“He then rubbed the back of my head and left,” said Mrs Anderson.

“Somebody else rang the ambulance.

“He didn’t ask me if I wanted taking somewhere or if I needed help.

“Fair enough, he might have been shaken up, but if it had been me I would have waited until the end and phoned the ambulance.

“I’m not happy he left the scene when I had blood all over my face and my teeth were on the ground.’’ PC Phil Brown, of Durham Constabulary’s north area road policing unit, said: “I am hoping to trace any witnesses to the incident or even to prick the conscience of the driver.”

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Brown on 0345-60-60-365.
