A POPULAR youth project in Thirsk has been given a boost to extend its services and facilities with a £3,665 grant.

Thirsk Clock, based in Thirsk’s market place, was given the funds by Hambleton District Council recently.

It will use them to buy play facilities such as a pool table as well as electronic items like a plasma TV, laptop computers and a Nintendo Wii.

Neville Huxtable, the Conservative candidate for Sowerby in the North Yorkshire County Council election, said "I fully support Thirsk Clock.

"I am delighted that the district council has awarded this grant of £3,665 enabling Thirsk Clock to provide young people with improved facilities for their spare time."

Thirsk Clock first opened in 2006 and since then the district council has given it, or helped it gain, nearly £110,000.
