THE driver of a van involved in a crash with a motorcyclist that left a stretch of the A64 closed for more than five hours has been arrested.
The collision between a blue motorcycle and a white Luton hire van happened near Whitwell-on-the-Hill, on the eastbound carriageway, shortly before 3.45pm yesterday.
The motorcyclist, a man in his fifties, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with what have been described as ‘very serious injuries’ to his head.
North Yorkshire Police closed both the east and west-bound carriageways with diversions put in place at Barton crossroads and Welburn crossroads.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, or who may have seen either vehicle before it took place, to contact them on 0845 60 60 247.
