A £500 reward has been offered for the safe return of two familiar feathered friends of visitors to a farm attraction.

African Grey parrots Mork and Mindy were taken from their enclosure at Tweddle Children’s Animal Farm, in Blackhall, County Durham, overnight on Sunday into Monday morning.

Site owners Denise and Peter Wayman are sure they must have been stolen as a plastic container and some money were also taken from the pay cabin at the farm, in Hesleden Lane.

The long-tailed birds, which are about 1ft tall, are worth about £1,000 each.

One of the parrots has a distinctive line of patter, mimicking Mrs Wayman’s father, Ritson, who often helps out by manning the pay cabin. She said: “They are very talkative and meet and greet our visitors, so anyone who has been here lately will have seen them.

“They’re tame, one of them particularly, and he used to call out to the dogs, but in my dad’s accent.”
