WORK has begun on a new £7.2m housing development in Hartlepool.
Innovus Homes, a partnership between Hartlepool Housing and Keepmoat Ltd, is building 74 properties on Warren Road and Smyth Place.
The scheme is being funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Housing Hartlepool.
David Mellor, of Keepmoat Ltd, said: "This is positive news for Hartlepool and the construction industry. Despite the current climate conditions the partnership, with the support of the HCA, has worked hard to deliver this scheme, which will provide much needed homes for Hartlepool.
Catherine Purdy, Housing Hartlepool’s chief executive, added: "I am delighted that this exciting project will provide much needed homes for local people at a time when the housing market is struggling.
"This will bring about the regeneration of the areas concerned and also provide a great boost to the local economy."
