PUPILS at a North Yorkshire school have been getting to their classrooms in a healthier, cheaper and more environmentally-friendly way- by walking.
The Eco-Council at Kirkby and Great Broughton School, in Kirkby, run walking buses once a week from the car parks at the Wainstones Hotel and the Bay Horse Inn, where the children will be walked to school by a team of volunteers.
As part of national Walk to School Week an extra day of walking buses was arranged, with more than a third of pupils using the service on one or both days.
The motto of the service was Walk n’ Talk to encourage children to interact before settling down for the day.
