CAVERS have been taking a rare opportunity to descend into the gaping mouth of Britain’s second-biggest cave chamber.
People were winched down Gaping Gill in Ingleborough, North Yorkshire, at the weekend to see the natural wonder.
The cave is so large the knave of York Minster could be contained inside it.
The main chamber is 145 metres long, 25 metres wide and 35 metres high.
Bradford Potholing Club organised the expedition, and will take more members of the public into the cave this week.
The cave was floodlit, offering visitors a view that is not normally available.
