POLICE have issued an appeal for information after a shopworker was carjacked and £10,000 in bank holiday takings stolen.
A police spokesman said the victim, who worked for McColl's in Oakfield, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, drove away from the store in a dark Renault Laguna at about 10am yesterday.
The spokesman said: "When he stopped at Oakfield and Pease Way, a man got into the car. He had something in a bag and intimated that he was armed."
the shopworker was told to drive twoards the town centre, then turn around and drive to the roundabout at the top of Pease Way, then into Horndale Avenue, before turning right at the mini-roundabout and immediately left into Preston Road.
There, the suspect fled with a blue sports holdall containing about £10,000. The robber was in his 20s and was wearing a baseball cap.
He escaped in a dark BMW or Lexus-type vehicle. Witnesses are asked to call 0345-60-60-365 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
