SAFETY chief Steven Fort literally took to his bike to raise awareness and much needed funds for a cancer charity.
The health and safety officer at Lightwater Valley theme park near Ripon, he cycled 150 miles from Sunderland on the east coast to Whitehaven on the west.
His journey took three days to complete and in that time, Steven raised over £1,100 through donations and sponsorship.
His effort followed his own battle with the illness. He was diagnosed with prostrate cancer a year ago but following an operation is now on the way to a full recovery.
"I decided that after the operation and after some recuperation, I wanted to do something positive," he said.
"I’ve not been on a bike for years and thought that cycling coast to coast for me was going to be a real challenge - and it certainly was."
The parks general manager Mark Bainbridge said: "We are fully supportive of Steven’s efforts.
"He’s a valued member of the team and to cycle 150 miles coast to coast is a real achievement. We were happy as a company to contribute £500 towards his fundraising target."
