STAFF at a supermarket are dressing as Victorian grocers to raise money for a toddler who suffers from a rare condition.
Staff at Sainsbury’s, in Framwellgate Moor, Durham City, organised the event for two-year-old Charlie Wilkinson.
He has Leigh’s disease, which affects the central nervous system and means he cannot sit up properly.
Charlie needs a car seat that costs about £1,200 to support his head. Family friend Sharon Bowman suggested the fundraising weekend to tie in with the shop’s 140th anniversary.
Ms Bowman, 41, from Kimblesworth, near Chester-le-Street, said: “The idea is to help a special little boy get something he really needs.
“The whole shop has got involved.
“It has certainly attracted a lot of comments from the customers.”
