MUSICIANS and football fans who have organised a concert to secure the future of their club have decided to pass on the profits to a supporters’ trust group.
A group of Darlington supporters organised the second Darlo Bands for Darlo Fans event to help the cash-strapped Quakers.
They arranged a similar event when Darlington were in administration during the 2003/4 season.
Funds from the event were to go to the club to help it pay bills through the summer.
However, as a result of George Houghton’s intention to take the club out of administration, the money will instead go to Darlington Supporters’ Trust.
Bands playing at the event, to be held at The Forum Music Centre, Borough Road, Darlington, will include The Steady Boys, Lifetime Skiver, The Felons and Si Kelly.
There will also be DJs, a raffle and an auction.
Organiser Mike Cass said: “The concert was originally organised when the Quakers were deep in administration, but now George Houghton has taken up the reins again, we feel that it would be best to donate any funds raised to help safeguard the club’s future.
“It is a massive relief that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that it looks like we will be playing league football next year, but how long will it be before the club is plunged into another nightmare?
“It makes sense to try to raise funds now just in case we end up in a mess again.”
Steve Duffy, from the trust, said: “We are very grateful to Mike and the bands taking part and hope fans will go along and enjoy themselves.
“Proceeds will be placed in our ring-fenced crisis account, which is still there, untouched, with the long-term future of football in Darlington in mind.
“We would appeal for fans to join the trust. Whatever the permutations regarding the future ownership of the club, a strong trust is important during the critical time ahead.”
The event will take place on Saturday, June 13. Tickets are £5, on 01325-363135.
