An Internationally renowned professor has received financial support from Redcar & Cleveland Enterprise team (LEGI) to help boost his profile.

Following many years in the medical profession, Professor Steven Russell who has spent years of practice teaching both in the UK and overseas is aiming to expand his unique one-year-old Saltburn clinic, The Restoratory.

Professor Russell and his colleagues provide an initial assessment to provide the most appropriate treatment for patients, by finding the root cause of the problem. Appropriate action is then offered to provide minimum treatment with maximum effect.

This helps reduce the ‘trial and error’ factor which is common in the field of Natural medicines.

A large number of different treatments are available, ranging from acupuncture and aromatherapy to traditional Chinese medicine, which treat the a wide range of conditions.

Professor Russell discovered his passion for natural medicines while growing up in the Kenyan bush when he became accustomed to making use of any available natural remedies.

He then moved to England to join the Royal Navy, where he served as a pilot before being forced to leave through injury, which lead him to embark on his career in Natural Medicine, initially focusing on homeopathy, before diversifying into other fields.

The father of four insists that his methods of treatment are the best available, and is enthusiastic about his profession and his patients.

He said: “I love what I do and I am very passionate about it and passionate about finding all the answers.

Many of my patients only see me once before they are better. It's about finding the origin of the problem which solves the great majority of problems.

“Around 50% of patients will see me once, the rest I will meet maybe two or three times before they are better.”

Mr Russell has gained international recognition for his abilities and has helped to set up clinics in a number of other countries, as well as having clients from overseas and across England.

Over the years, he says he has had tens of thousands of patients, is now eager to make a success of The Restoratory, saying, “The whole idea of it now is to build up the workshop side of things.

“For example, we will be teaching people about stress management and teaching them different techniques to deal with it themselves.”

Professor Russell also has plans to build a hospital, saying, “Originally, 17 years ago, the plan was to build a hospital and I am still hoping to do this.

Possibly something small or a number of branches, as an alternative hospital.”
