POLICE are appealing for information following an apparent unprovoked attack which left a man with a broken nose and black eyes.
The 36-year-old victim was assaulted at 7.10pm on Wednesday (MAY 20) on Silverdale Place, Newton Aycliffe.
Moments earlier the local man had just left Horndale Post Office. He was kicked and punched by two white men thought to be about 35.
One was about 5ft 8ins, stocky, with short brown hair and the other was about 6ft, medium build with short blonde hair.
After the attack he was taken by ambulance to Darlington Memorial Hospital and later allowed home.
Nothing appeared to have been stolen from him leaving police unclear as to the motive.
PC Gareth Hodgson said: "This was a vicious assault and at this stage there is no obvious motive.
"I am appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at that time who might have seen the men described to contact us."
Anyone with information should contact Newton Aycliffe police on 0345-60-60-365 or call Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
