THE niece of cancer victim who died trying to raise £20,000 to buy a new treatment drug is holding a charity night in his memory.
Leanne Smith, 25, is co-ordinating an evening of entertainment to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ms Smith, from Dipton, County Durham, was impressed by the care the gave her uncle, Colin Glease, who passed away last year after suffering from pancreatic cancer.
She said: "They do an absolutely fantastic job and we said we would do something every year for them.
"They do not get paid enough for the work they do and at least we know this money is going to a good cause."
Mr Glease, who was 45, raised around £10,000 to buy Tarceva, which is not available on the NHS, but died before he was able to see if would have been effective, The money was split between the University Hospital of North Durham and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ms Smith added: "He would be so proud the people are doing things to support the Macmillan nurses."
The event, 4 acts 4 hours 4 charity, is being held in the Lancastrian Suite at the Federation Brewery on Lancaster Road in Gateshead on July 17 2010 from 7pm-12am with tickets costing £15.
Ms Smith is looking for entertainers including bands, singers and comedians, to do an hour set each and donations to give away as raffle prizes.
