GREENFINGERED youngsters joined forces with the fire brigade to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
And a cash injection from a local company will help boost the new project called Grow n Learn.
Firefighters have been working with children and teachers from Grangetown Primary School to set up a community garden and allotment.
The plot will be maintained and used by the children for planting, growing, cooking, eating and even selling the produce.
Stephen Trillo from Artennius UK Limited presented the youngsters with a cheque for £1,000 to help fund the project.
Frank Sweeney, Grangetown Station Manager, said: "This will be a very good opportunity for the fire service to work with young people who will develop a better awareness of the work we carry out in the community.
"The children will also learn about healthy eating and how to grow fruit and vegetables as well as seeing how our local business partners are integrating into the community."
Headteacher, Bobby Jameson, said: "The garden will be a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn about plants, nature, and sustainability through hands-on activities whilst building important relationships with the fire service."
