Ferryhill Town Council has received numerous complaints about some irresponsible dog owners. They are not discarding of their used dog bags in one of the numerous dog bins around town. In particular those at the entrances to Dean Bank Park.
Instead, some dog owners are throwing the bags full of dog faeces into the overgrowth around the perimeter of the park. This is causing a severe health risk for the general public, but in particular, youngsters who quite often have to retrieve footballs from these areas.
A spokesman for local footballers said, "This is not only disgusting but could result in a child losing their eyesight, the irresponsible dog owners must stop or be caught and fined".
The Town Council in response to these concerns is placing signs around the park advising dog owners to dispose of their dog bags correctly. They are issuing press releases as well as requesting CCTV monitor the situation.
Durham County Council, Community Wardens will visit the park to try and catch the culprits who will be given a £80 on the spot fine. If you are aware of the culprits and can name them or give details, please contact the Town Council on 01740 652 157.
