LEADERS of a students’ union have attended an exclusive reception to celebrate their award-winning success.
Durham Students’ Union’s Dunelm House was overall winner of Durham’s first Best Bar None awards, a scheme aimed at promoting safer drinking in the city.
Graham Ambler, Andrew Welch, Paul Lloyd and Cath Magee, from the union, travelled to a reception on the House of Commons Terrace for winners of the scheme from across the UK.
During the event, Phil Woolas MP, a Home Office minister, said how important Best Bar None was to the industry and the country and thanked the winners of the schemes for their hard work.
More than 100 people attended the event, including Licensing minister Gerry Sutcliffe and assistant government whip Dawn Butler.
Other category winners in Durham’s event included The Half Moon Inn, The Loft and Van Mildert College.
