MEMBERS of the Northallerton Talking Newspaper recently held their annual meeting in the town’s Methodist church hall.

Chairman Eddie Morris welcomed members and production manager Anne Boersma gave a full report on the publication of the talking newspaper over the past year.

Alan Bradley became the new chairman, taking over from Mr Morris, who was thanked by Kenneth Hird for his time and dedicated service to the talking newspaper.

The talking newspaper, which provides a service for blind and visually impaired people, celebrated its 30th anniversary in October last year.

A civic reception was held in the town hall to mark the occasion.

The talking newspaper has more than 100 listeners.

It is produced on cassettes with one side news items taken from local newspapers, including The Northern Echo and the Darlington and Stockton Times.

On the other side of the cassettes is a form of magazine, including short articles on subjects including cookery, gardening, nature, sport, and a what's on guide.

Also included is helpful information and useful telephone numbers.

The cassettes are sent to listeners’ homes.
