POLICE in Shildon investigating a woman's death have arrested a man tonight.
The woman died in Bishop Auckland General Hospital this evening after being taken there by ambulance from Shildon earlier in the day.
Hospital staff concerned by the woman's injuries called police, who are now investigating.
Officers sealed off a house in Main Street, Shildon, at 7pm.
Forensic teams are expected to begin examining the property in the morning.
A spokesman for Durham Police said tonight: "A female was taken to Bishop Auckland General Hospital where she sadly passed away."
The spokesman confirmed a man had been arrested.
He said: "A man is in custody at this time. We are awaiting the results of the post mortem."
