A NEW exhibition looking at the history of clock-making in Stokesley has opened.
The show, which runs until May 27 at the town’s library, follows the recent publication of Stokesley's Clockmakers: Clockmaking in a North Yorkshire Market Town.
Northallerton-based author Dr David Severs, a former police officer, carried out detailed research for the book and is himself a direct descendant of renowned 18th-century Northallerton clockmaker Hugh Pannel.
On display are many photographs of clocks made by Stokesley clockmakers from 1740 and includes examples of clocks up to 1900.
There is also a brass dial longcase clock by Hugh Pannel in around 1750 and a painted dial longcase clock make by John Turnbull in about 1830.
