POLICE are promising to deal with nuisance drivers causing chaos in a coach park.

Sergeant Peter Howarth is warning people they face losing their cars if they continue to play dangerous games in Seaton Carew Coach Park.

Officers have received numerous reports of drivers using the car park to drive dangerously.

Those driving in an anti-social, careless and inconsiderate manner, can face confiscation of their cars, under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 and the Road Traffic Act 1988, should they receive a second notice.

The notice actually applies to the vehicle itself, so if several drivers are caught, the owner of the car could still face seizure of their motor. Sgt Howarth, of Jutland Road Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "The coach park is routinely monitored by Cleveland Police in the interests of public safety. Those using it are therefore asked to do so in a responsible manner.

"Anyone engaging in anti-social behaviour of this nature, or in deed, contravening the law by driving inconsiderately will be dealt with appropriately by officers using the full range of powers available.

"This could lead to vehicles being confiscated and even disposed of, with the driver or the owner of the car bearing all costs.

"The coach park is a community facility and should be used as such. Those people visiting Seaton Carew do so in the expectation of being safe and secure."

Anyone witnessing dangerous driving is asked to contact police on 01642-326326.
