HOSPICE fundraisers and supporters took part in a charity ride and walk yesterday.
About 60 people joined the 12th Sunflower Cycle or Saunter, which raises money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham.
The course followed a circular route along Lanchester Valley Walk, beginning at Broompark picnic area, near Durham.
Hospice fundraiser Caroline Broadfoot said: “It has a been a fantastic day. For the first time in three years, it has not rained.
“This event kicks off our season of fundraising. Last year, we raised £6,000 through the Sunflower Cycle or Saunter and hope to raise a similar amount this year.
“St Cuthert’s Hospice is a valuable resource and are reliant on the community to fund it.
“We are very grateful to everyone who has helped and would like to thank members of the Durham Elvet, Durham Bede and Durham Rotary clubs who put in teams and helped with marshalling.”
Walkers Crisps provided crisps for those taking part, while Nestle donated Rolos.
The hospice will hold a Tyne Bridge zip wire challenge on Sunday, June 7, and a ladies-only midnight walk at Aykley Heads, Durham, on Saturday, June 20.
