HOSPICE fundraisers and supporters stepped out and pedalled for the charity at the weekend.
About 60 people today took part in the 12th Sunflower Cycle or Saunter, which raises money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham.
The course followed a circular route along the former Lanchester Valley Railway, now the Lanchester Valley walk, beginning at Broompark picnic area.
Hospice fundraiser Caroline Broadfoot said: "It has a been a fantastic day. For the first time in three years it has not rained.
"This event kicks off our season of fundraising. Last year we raised £6,000 through the Sunflower Cycle or Saunter and hope to raise a similar amount this year."
She added: "We would like to thank everyone for their help and support.
"St Cuthert’s Hospice is a valuable resource and are reliant on the community to fund it.
"We are very grateful to everyone who has helped and would like to thank members of the Durham Elvet, Durham Bede and Durham Rotary clubs who put in teams and helped with marshalling."
Walkers Crisps provided crisps for those taking part, while Nestle donated Rolos.
Participants, who were aged from eight years and older, had two routes to choose from: an eight-mile option aimed at walkers and a 14-mile alternative suitable for cyclists.
Other dates for the diary are the ladies-only Midnight Walk at Aykley Heads on June 20 and, for the more adventurous, the Tyne Bridge Zip Wire Challenge on June 7.
